We live amidst vibrant tree communities that hold rich cultural traditions and teachings. Trees are models of adaptability, generosity, and community-building. In this interactive workshop, you will gain skills in plant identification and explore food, medicine, traditional technologies, and social-emotional teachings related to common Pacific Northwest evergreen trees.
Learn to make tree-inspired recipes and lead activities geared for young learners. Participants will receive a printed Activity Guide for Early Childhood Education with resources from Plant Teachings for Growing Social-Emotional Skills and Tend, Gather and Grow toolkits. We will spend some time outside; please dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. We will provide coffee, tea, snacks - please bring your own lunch. This training takes place at the GRuB farm in Olympia, WA and will be facilitated by Alyssa Venable of Scatter Creek Montessori, Mariana Harvey (Yakama) and Kim Gaffi.

Tend, Gather, and Grow (Tend) is a K-12 curriculum that focuses on native and naturalized plants of the Pacific Northwest region. Through hands-on activities, students explore themes in wild food traditions, herbal medicine, plant technologies, cultural ecosystems, and tree communities.
